As a teenager, Tord Larsson-Steen and the rock band Fairness released a single and toured with songs ranging from
"medieval chivalric music for socially critical issues". Today, the guitar is still around, but mostly as a hobby.

Tord describes himself as a genuine Värmlander and that the Värmland forests have always been his starting point. But the career has extended considerably further out into the world.

On the list of professional experience, there are plenty of titles that contain words such as manager, division, group, industry, energy and technology - and countries such as Sweden, India, Japan and the USA. A few years ago, he was also marketing and sales manager for the LearningWell group and CEO of one of its subsidiaries.

The company he will now be responsible for is a merger of the LearningWell companies in Karlstad and Helsingborg. Despite the fact that the companies have won global awards in the past - specifically for their technical competence - the future plans are very little about technology.

"We must become the best at listening to people and understanding what they really need," says Tord Larsson-Steen. “That is one of the reasons why I return to LearningWell. The owners have always cared about the staff, while daring to make demands on them. Then I also know that we would rather take a loss when something unforeseen happens than try to squeeze the last penny out of the customer."

He believes that companies have historically made money by turning down assignments and projects.

"By sticking to doing what we believe is best for the customer, and saying no to things we don't believe in, we have built up trust and very long business relationships. Therefore, I can say with certainty that we and the customers are not only looking out for our own good, but that we are here to make Sweden more profitable, so that more jobs can stay in the country."

Ask and ask again, then build technology

He doesn't say it outright, but it still becomes clear during the conversation. Tord Larsson-Steen believes that the proprietary platform TagWell is an example of something that contributes to such a greater benefit. A platform that automates logistics and facilitates traceability for, for example, clothing and railway wagons.

"Certainly, digitization and automation will change the job market and create different professions. But we have everything to gain from industries and companies being able to remain at home. If we can contribute there, we would like to do so, for example by simplifying work in monotonous and dangerous environments.”

To succeed, he says that LearningWell will need even more people who want to deeply understand what customers really benefit from. And that it is important to ask, ask and ask again to ensure that the collaboration really makes things better for the customer - also in the long term.

Only when the insights and answers are gathered is it time to start looking at the technical pieces, and take the discussion further to the developers.

"The last time I worked at LearningWell, I had the feeling of being surrounded by colleagues who didn't just want money or work with hip technologies. The feeling is the same now. Here there is more focus on personal development. So how you can get better at what you do at work, but also how you can grow as a person. And that is exactly what we will build our future business on.”
